Ernest Raymond Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ernest Smith was born in Lake Helen, Florida to Clifford and Martha Smith and grew up in Deland, Florida. Once he turned 18, he joined the United States Air Force where he served our country for 20 years, eventually retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement, he soon met his wife Maradee in Lampertheim, Germany in 1971. He worked and lived in Germany and also in Tehran, Iran, where he worked for the Shah as an Aircraft Inspector for the Royal Iranian Air Force. In 1979, Ernest and his family settled in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where he commuted and worked for Grumman Aeronautics as an A6 Aircraft Inspector and then for Mac Donnell Douglas Aeronautical Corporation as a Missile Ordinance Inspector. Ernest happily retired in 1994, and he and Maradee moved to St. Augustine, Florida in 2016. Faith and family were two of the most important aspects of Ernest’s life. A Christian, Ernest was a long time Sothern Baptist, a member of Ancient City Baptist Church in St. Augustine, and in the last decade, he and Maradee read through the entire Bible 7 times! Ernest is survived by his wife, Maradee; his 4 children; Teresa Panesso, Vi Sudhipong, Mary Ellen Ohnemus and Michael Smith; his 7 grandchildren, Cade, Alexander, Gabriel, Sona, Rider, Rick, and Eddie; his sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Guy Shell; and his nephews and niece Randy Shell, Timothy Shell and Delora Shell. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00pm at Ancient City Baptist Church on Tuesday June 28, 2022.
